We call upon federal and state Parliaments to implement urgent reforms to the aged care industry including:

Mandatory reporting of elder abuse for all health care workers.

A dedicated, transparent reporting system where information is freely available.

Greater funding commitments and initiatives for best practice aged care standards at a state and federal level.

Nationally consistent training standards for all health care staff and mandatory core units of continuing professional development.

Mandate minimum staff to resident ratios and minimum skill mix for all clinical and care staff.

Refresh the National Accreditation standards, and make alterations to the Aged Care Act.

Strengthen ageing-in-place strategies and resources.

Improve access to palliative care services.

Workforce strategies to retain and attract quality staff to aged care .

Registration of Care Workers, including the implementation of the National Code of Conduct for Health Care Workers, to be overseen by AHPRA and appropriate unions.
